Shumiao Ouyang
Shumiao Ouyang is an Associate Professor of Finance at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, and a Tutorial Fellow in Management at Wadham College, Oxford.
He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Princeton University, an M.S. in Finance from Peking University, and a dual B.S. in Biology and B.A. in Economics from Tsinghua University.
His research studies FinTech, Household Finance, AI, Digital Payment, and Data Privacy, especially the emerging field of BigTech Finance. He collaborates with leading BigTech firms such as Ant Group and Alibaba to explore the evolving landscape of finance and technology. He aims to uncover the complex interactions and impacts of our rapidly digitizing world on the economy and society.
He co-directs the Financial Wellness Research Laboratory at Oxford Saïd with Professor Pinar Ozcan. Supported by a £1.5 million donation from Capital.com, this five-year initiative combines behavioral finance research with industry collaboration to improve global financial literacy and consumer financial decision-making.
Alongside his research, he is building XSci, a preprint platform where a paper's reviews, from AI systems and from paid domain experts, are published alongside it, with the authors' replies on the same page. It comes from a problem he keeps running into as an author and a referee: science has never produced so much, and never checked so little of it. It is an independent company rather than a University project.
